Gender-Responsive Budgeting in Latin America and the Caribbean

About us

Who we are

The budget and gender website is a gender-responsive budgeting knowledge-sharing and management platform based on Latin America and the Caribbean experiences.

It seeks to be an accessible site to share good practices, studies, and lessons learned with public institutions, decision-makers, civil society organizations, professionals, technical staff, and citizens, in general interested in international experiences and, in particular, Latin American experiences in the field.

It is administered by the Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean of UN Women, the United Nations Organization’s agency dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women that, among other priority work areas, promotes gender equality as a key aspect of planning and formulation of public budgets.

Information sources

The information sources, experiences, and initiatives available on this website are the result of a series of efforts led by UN Women in recent years to systematize initiatives, studies, experiences, and good practices in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The first Budget and Gender website was created back in 2005 thanks to a partnership between UN Women and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) with support from the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Basque Government, which provided support for its maintenance.

Since 2007, UN Women’s Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean has been responsible for the website’s administration. In 2023 the website was revamped with an innovative design and the incorporation of new issues.
